White Fragility

Robin DiAngelo ★★★★★

A hard book to read, in the sense that it’s a hard pill to swallow that we are living in a racist social system and thus we are racists as well. Not in the “skinheads marching on the street” nor the “openly disparaging blacks” kind of way, but in a more insidious way, which perpetuates this system.

The book gives many examples of this subtle and pervasive racism and is quite powerful.

What I found disappointing is that it doesn’t offer any actionable insights, it only encourages us to “educate ourselves” on the issue. I bought this book in the hopes that it will do that but it failed to deliver in that aspect. It was thought-provoking but not very educational. Fortunately, at the end of the book, there are recommended resources (other books and movies) about the topic.
